As a Mathematics teacher I often hear parents say "I can't help them, I'm not good at maths" and I'm always amazed that there's no sense of shame associated with this statement. It's almost like it's socially accepted to be 'bad at maths' which is odd since people who can't read wouldn't be happy to broadcast this to the world. In fact I think they'd be trying to conceal this fact and probably be doing something about it!
This class is designed for those of you who are 'bad at maths' to begin to rectify the situation. You will find a selection of lessons based on some of the fundamental mathematical principals. You do not need to do them all; I have included a wide selection so you can target the areas you have personal weaknesses in.
For those of you who are 'good at maths' you are welcome to take this class as well, in fact it will probably give you an easy opportunity to get some points. Feel free to ignore the lessons and simply submit the assignments of your choice.
Make sure you read all the information on the Syllabus pages as this course will run a little differently from the usual classes on HOL.
If there is a topic not included in this course that you would like to learn about send me a HOL message (ma1705) and I might be able to add it in for you. I will probably be running this class again in the future so if I can't add it in this term I will make sure I do so next time around. You are welcome to take this class again next term as long as you attempt different questions/topics.

About your teacher
I'm Maxwell Shadow, your student teacher for this class. This is the second class I've run on HOL, the first being Marvellous Musical Theatre. In real life I'm a Mathematics teacher in England for 11-18 year olds. I've been teaching for 8 years and love Maths!
So is this the Arithmancy they studied at Hogwarts?
Sadly no, this is muggle mathematics and so is purely non-magical. No numerology will be required and we will not be using numbers to predict the future. Sorry if the sneaky class name confused you!
